I stand with you

One of the primary values of Aisle Meets Annie is Reconciliation. Respecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as Australia’s first people is incredibly important to me.

It’s all about respecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the first carers of Country across Australia. More than that, this value is about intentionally, appropriately, and considerately honouring them in all their deadliness! ⁣

To show my allyship to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, I commissioned a custom denim jacket from the astonishingly talented artist Ginny’s Girl Gang. So this is what my jacket is all about:⁣⁣

  • I stand with you: I am saying I stand with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in the pursuit for reconciliation and action to change all the injustices that still exist today. My philosophy as a celebrant is "your wedding your way", so I'm also saying I stand by a couples choices about their ceremony and help them to have an authentic and all round awesome experience!⁣⁣

  • The Bogong Moth: the bogong moth is significant to the Canberra area for Aboriginal Peoples as every year bogong moths migrate south Canberra. This migration of the moths coincided with the timing of the annual trek of the Ngoonawal Peoples and the neighbouring mobs to the same area. People from surrounding mobs would come together to feast on the moth as well as practice culture, trade, have ceremonies, and marry! ⁣⁣

  • Bora rings: The bora rings, much like the meaning of the bogong moth, represents people coming together to connect and celebrate. To many, family and friends coming together is such a significant component of having a wedding. It's such a happy and joyous time and something that I love about weddings. The bora rings also represents my passion for working with people, and supporting them in whatever way I can. ⁣

So there you have it! That is what my deadly jacket is all about. ⁣⁣Thank you so much Ginny for this beautiful and meaningful piece!

A big thanks to Kelly from Huggins Photography for the beautiful snaps. ⁣
